A backdoor front poured into the Rio Grande Valley overnight, bringing gusty east winds through the metro this morning.

Despite today's back door, temperatures remain just a few degrees cooler today and Sunday afternoon, with high temperatures still well above normal for late September. A few isolated showers and storms are possible again this afternoon in northern New Mexico, but Sunday will be drier.

More record-breaking heat is expected Monday afternoon, with central and western parts of New Mexico particularly feeling the heat. Highs will climb back into the 90s in the metro Monday afternoon. Another cold front will move in early Tuesday morning, which will cool the highs slightly again on Tuesday. However, this will be short-lived as a warm-up begins again on Wednesday, maintaining near-record temperatures through the end of next week.

Looking ahead to the Balloon Fiesta, the first weekend will unfortunately remain very warm, with lows around 50°C and highs around 80°C.
